AIM at Melanoma

AIM at Melanoma is a non-profit organization committed to melanoma research, education, awareness, and legislation.

They offer a great online community for melanoma patients, caregivers, and advocates (see AIM’s Facebook page, link below) and collaborate with the world’s top melanoma researchers. You can also talk to an experienced nurse here and get help with treatment options, clinical trials, finding the right doctor, questions to ask your doctor and much more.

American Melanoma Foundation 

The American Melanoma Foundation is a charitable, non-profit organization that was founded in 1990 by a group of melanoma patients and their relatives.

AMF’s goal is to raise public awareness and educate on the prevention of melanoma. Most notably, the organization provides patient education and support groups, and funds research and discovery programs for the treatment of melanoma.

 

Melanoma International Foundation

Established in 2003, the Melanoma International Foundation (MIF) is a non-profit organization created to provide scientifically sound guidance and support with up-to-date information about research and treatment protocol.

On the site’s forum (link below), you can connect with other skin melanoma patients as well as experts for support.

Melanoma Research Alliance

The Melanoma Research Alliance (MRA) is the largest private funder of melanoma research.

Their ultimate goal is to find a cure for melanoma by funding the most promising research programs for prevention, diagnosis and staging, and treatment of melanoma. This includes research in biological causes of carcinogenesis, skin screening, biomarkers, imaging, immunotherapy, molecularly targeted therapy, and combination therapy.

The Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF) works diligently with government at the local, state and federal levels and is a leading force to increase federal funding for melanoma research and skin cancer prevention programs.

Outrun the Sun 

Outrun the Sun, Inc. (OTS) is a nonprofit organization recognized for facilitating partnerships in support of skin cancer education and melanoma research. OTS is committed to ensuring that ALL medical school students, not only those studying dermatology, learn to detect skin cancer in its earliest stages, leading to better patient outcomes.

OTS works with patients, families and caregivers to create broad-based, community sun safety education events. In 2014, Outrun the Sun launched the largest one-day sun safety initiative ever established in the United States at the Indianapolis 500.

 

Skin Cancer Foundation

Since its founding in 1979, The Skin Cancer Foundation has set the standard for educating the public and the medical profession about skin cancer, its prevention by means of sun protection, the need for early detection, and prompt, effective treatment.

The SCF is comprised of distinguished physicians and those dedicated to reducing the incidence of skin cancer.

 

The American Academy of Dermatology

The American Academy of Dermatology is the largest and most representative dermatology group in the United States. With a membership of more than 17,000, it represents virtually all practicing dermatologists in the United States, as well as a growing number of international dermatologists.
